After around 1625 he again worked in Leiden as an independent master in a workshop along with Jan Lievens. In about 1631 Rembrandt moved to Amsterdam, where he remained for the rest of his life. In 1633 he married Saskia van Uylebourgh, who died in 1642, after which he lived with Hendrickje Stoffels. His financial difficulties steadily grew, culminating in bankruptcy in 1656: His house and his extensive art and rarities collection had to be sold in order to pay his bills, Rembrandt was the most significant and most versatile Dutch painter and graphic artist of his day. He tried his hand at all types of art common at the time, but concentrated especially on religious themes and portraits. Among his works are The Rape of Ganymede, 1635, Gemaldegalerie Alte Meister, Dresden; Moses Breaking the Commandment Tablets, 1659, Gemaldegalerie SMPK, Berlin; and the Staalmeesters, 1661, Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.
