Cornelis Anthonisz. (c. 1505 Amsterdam-1553 Amsterdam) was a painter, printmaker and cartographer. He served Charles V (1500-1558) in this last capacity, traveling to Algeria with Charles' army and taking part in the siege of Therouanne near St. Omer in 1553. Hs paintings of cities from a bird's-eye perspective are of particular importance. Anthonisz. is best known for his group portrait of the civic guard of Amsterdam, one of the first of this genre.
