About the Artist

Born in 1836 Netherlands, Alma-Tadema came from an upperclass education, and studied nothing but Latin and Greek, a great influence on his artistic work. The accuracy of this Historical context as the classical, lost world infused with a romantic passion, was common to his style of painting . Popular works are ' Unconscious Rivals' and ' A Favourite Custom'.
